ASARUM EUROPAeUM. [Asar. eur.] Haselwurz, or asarabacca, Hahnemann. Aristolochiaceae.

► Gradual vanishing of thought, like when falling asleep. ► Imagines he in hovering in the air like a spirit, when walking in the open air. ► Stupid feeling in the head, has no desire to do anything. ► Great merriness, alternating with occasional momentary quiet or gloominess. ► Tearful sadness and anxiety. ► Melancholic irritability.

► Dull headache in the left temple, afterwards below the parietal bones, lastly in occiput. ► Pressive headache above the root of the nose ; in the temples, particularly the left. ► Pressure over greater part of brain from without inwards. ► Drawing headache as if the temple would be drawn in (at noon), ameliorated in the open air and when lying down. ► Very sensitive compressive headache in the left temple and behind the ears, more violent when walking or shaking the head, better when sitting. ► Tearing, pulsating pain in forehead, excited by stooping.

► Itching, beginning with fine stitches, below the left temple. ► Sensation of coldness at a small spot on the left side of head, above the ear. ► Tension of the scalp ; the hair feels painful.

► Left upper eyelid is somewhat swollen, the eye can not endure much reading. ► Sensation in each eye as if it would be pressed asunder, when reading. ► Painful dryness of the eyes. ► Watering and burning of the eyes.

► Right auricle hot to the touch. ► Oversensitiveness of the nerves, the scratching of linen or silk is insupportable. ► Dull roaring of the left ear, like a distant wind-storm ; in the right distinct singing. ► Diminished hearing of the left ear. ► Sensation as if the skin were stretched over the right external ear, with tensive pressure within ; worse in cold.

► Discharge of bloody mucus from the nose. ► Dry coryza ; the left nostril is stopped up. ► Tickling in the nose, causing, after unsuccessful efforts, a sneeze, and discharges of clear fluid. ► Violent sneezing.

► Warmth of the cheeks. ► Fine stinging on the right cheek. ► Burning-stinging pain on the left cheek.

► Dryness of the inner side of lower lip. ► Cutting pain with cramp at the articulation of lower jaw.

► Teeth of the left side feel as if hollow. ► Cold feeling in upper incisors like from a cold breath. ► Smarting sensation on the gums.

► Bread tastes bitter. ► Tobacco tastes bitter when smoking. ► Burning sensation across the tongue.

► Mucus in the mouth, of a sweetish, insipid taste. ► Accumulation of much water in the mouth, with nausea.

► Dryness in the throat with stitches. ► Scraping in the throat. ► Tough mucus in throat, is unable to raise it, or hawk it loose. ► Swallowing difficult, as from swelling of glands of throat.

► Loathing of food without any gastric derangement. ► Unconquerable longing for alcohol.

► Early morning hunger.

► Hiccough. ► Frequent empty eructations. ► Imperfect eructations reaching only to upper part of chest. ► Continuous nausea and inclination to vomit (in fauces). ► Empty retching ; during retchings all symptoms are aggravated, except stupid feeling of head, which decreases. ► Vomiting of only a small quantity of greenish, somewhat sour fluid ; with great straining, and sensation about the ears as if the head would split. ► After vomiting, relief of the head symptoms.

► Pressure in stomach, scrobiculum and abdomen. ► Sensation of constriction in the region of the diaphragm.

► Cutting pain in the upper abdomen, better by passing flatus. ► Violent colic and vomiting. ► Rumbling and gurgling in the abdomen.

► Before stool, cutting in the abdomen and sharp stitches in the rectum, from above downwards. ► Stool : whitish-grey, or ash-colored, on the top like bloody mucus ; shaggy masses of mucus full of oxyuria.

► Violent pain in the left groin, darting through the urethra to the glans, in which a violent smarting, contracted pain remains for a long time.

► At the appearance of the menses violent pain in small of the back, which scarcely permits her to breathe. ► Vaginal fistula.

► Threatened abortion from excessive sensibility of the nerves.

► Stitches and constriction in the larynx.

► Breath very short (night). ► Whistling breathing at the beginning of coughing. ► Short, jerking breathing on account of stitches and constriction of larynx.

► Frequent cough on account of mucus in the chest ; mucus rises in the throat, causing difficult breathing, and finally cough, with expectoration. ► Inhalation causes irritation to cough, in the throat. ► Constant, short hacking cough of consumptives.

► Stitches in right or both lungs during inhalation. ► Sharp pressure in the region of the last ribs. ► Pain around both lungs, as if constricted by a thin wire.

► Pulse quick and strong.

► Burning sensation, right chest, more external than internal.

► Sensation in the muscles of the neck like from a tight cravat, or as if pressed upon by a dull edge. ► Burning pain, with stitches in small of back, while sitting. ► Tearing pain from crest of one ilium to the other. ► Bruised pain in the back. ► Dull stitches under the scapulae. ► Laming pains as if bruised in one of the cervical muscles, when moving the head.

► Violent stitch in both shoulders during motion or rest. ► Contractive tensive pain in the deltoid muscle, when laying the hand on the table, and while it lies there. ► Drawing-laming pain in the left wrist. ► Sudden drawing-burning pain from the wrist through the thumb and index-finger.

► Dull pressure in the right hip. ► Drawing, tensive pain in head of the left femur. ► Severe pain in the hip-joint and in the middle of the thigh, when stepping ; the foot feels as if paralyzed, he cannot step properly thereon. ► Severe rheumatic tearing stitches in the knees during motion and rest. ► Lassitude in the knees. ► Drawing in the hamstrings, evenings when lying in bed. ► Gurgling sensation in the patella. ► Bruised feeling in the left tibia. ► Stitches in the sole of the foot. ► The little toes pain as if frozen.

► Lightness of all the limbs ; he does not perceive that he has a body. ► Occasional darting and tearing pains in limbs.

► Great lassitude. ► Great faintness and constant yawning. ► General weary feeling. ► So weak and nauseated toward evening, that when he rises to sitting posture he feels as if he would instantly sink down and die ; he must lie in bed.

► Frequent yawning. ► Great drowsiness by day. ► Restless sleep. ► Nightly vexatious dreams about humiliations.

► Early morning : 15. Forenoon : 40. Noon : 3. Evening : 33, 36, 40. Night : 26, 37, 40. Day : 37, 40.

► Warmth or covering 40. ► Open air : 40. Walking in open air : 2. Cold : 6. ► Dry, cold weather aggravates rheumatism.

► Chill and cold feeling in the forenoon, after eating or drinking, and in the open air, generally with heat of the head. ► Great want of vital heat ; feels cold continually. θ With vaginal fistula. ► Cold feeling, not relieved by covering, or warmth of room. ► Heat in the evening, after lying down, particularly in the face and palms of hands. ► Alternate flushes of burning heat and coldness. ► Sweat increased at night, sour smell ; moist, profuse in axilla. ► Sweats easily, particularly on the upper body.

► Excessive sensibility of all the nerves ; when merely thinking (and this he must do continually) that some one might, with finger tip or nail, scratch even lightly on linen or similar material, a most disagreeable sensation thrills through him, arresting momentarily all his thoughts and actions.
